Waiting for WWDC before finally moving to Android
I have been on iOS for last 15 years or so. Never have I felt FOMO about what Android has and I have been fond of the privacy tools that iOS brings. But things have changed now.
It's 2025 and iOS is falling way behind Android when it comes to a LOT of things (except maybe privacy).
UI
Android 10 has a full refresh of UI and I love what they have been showing so far. I know its not yet out and it could be messy - BUT at least they are trying. Plus, iOS itself is so buggy on my 3 generations old iPhone that I don't really worry that much. Worst case, I will move from one dull, sluggish, buggy OS to another fresh, buggy OS.
AI
This is a big one. I use AI tools every day - i would even call myself a "Power User". All my workflows (except my hobbies) have AI tools integrated so far. And my iPhone feels like a device from decades ago. It feels extremely outdated. On my wife's Samsung, she can press a button, speak into Gemini and do a bunch of things. Siri absolutely still sucks. In comparison to what Android has, it feels like a project by a 5 year old.
Privacy
This one iOS wins - I love the iCloud features of temporary emails, how it keeps me informed about how services are using my permissions, etc. However, I am at a point now where I have a very stable phone use. I use it purely as a utility. I do not have social media apps, not even youtube on my phone. Just utilities. Hence, the risk of a rouge app screwing up my privacy is low - and if my bank app screws up, well what can I do anyway? I will miss the iCloud email features, but I think I can live without it.
Apps
Again, I only use utility apps AND all of them are cross-platform. I do not use any iOS-Only apps anyway. This has been a deliberate shift by me over the last many years - so this is no more a problem for me.
So for the first time in so many years, Android feels like a much superior platform than iOS - unless Apple does something spectacular at WWDC 2025 (unlikely), I am moving to Android this year.
